Bryant page main photo

[edit]

Although the “Kobe Bryant 2014” file has been the longstanding picture for this page, the “Kobe Bryant 2015” file is a better fit for that specific photo because it captures his face-to-face profile as Bryant is facing the camera and it is also a more recent picture. I think the current shot from 2014 of him playing meets MOS:LEADIMAGE:

Lead images should be natural and appropriate representations of the topic

It's preferable and to show a basketball player playing basketball in a "natural" shot with the ball and his facial features visible. Giving precedence to a "more recent photo" only applies to living people. For someone who's dead, we want the best representative shot of their life, which is not necessarily tied to the image's date.—Bagumba (talk) 05:25, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Younger picture in the infobox?

[edit]

This is just my personal animus, so feel free to strike down with impunity, but does anyone else think a younger pic of Kobe in the infobox would be a good idea? Like, circa 2007-2010? 2014 he was past his prime and not indicative of how he's otherwise regarded. Shamus248 (talk) 20:59, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good action shot with a clear view of his face. Which specific one(s) would you recommend as an alternative? —Bagumba (talk) 22:32, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
it's awesome, don't get me wrong. I also can't find any that fit that specific criteria on the wikimedia commons, and obviously I can't just pull off google images or anything. Shamus248 (talk) 20:05, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's pretty much the limitation. The positives of the picture outweigh the minor deterrent of his age, unless something new comes available. —Bagumba (talk) 20:14, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
