Was Doris Day a dancer?

[edit]

On social media, I saw a short video clip of Doris Day dancing with Gene Nelson in Lullaby of Broadway (1951). So I was tempted to changer the first sentence to read "Doris Day (born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff; April 3, 1922 – May 13, 2019) was an American actress, singer, and dancer." But perhaps her dancing talent wasn't sufficient. Thoughts? ThinkerFeeler (talk) 16:41, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is a difference between a person doing something, and being primarily or even well known for something. As an average film fan, I don't think that Doris Day is well known as a dancer, only as an actress and singer. This is especially relevant in the opening sentence and the WP:LEAD as a whole, which should establish the main reasons why a person is notable.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Her full name, despite conflicting reports, might be Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff, which is how it is listed in her obituary.

Then again, there is her birth certificate, which shows her name as Doris Mary Kappelhoff.
