[edit]This article is garbage as it stands and I will recommend it for deletion unless it is turned into a proper biographical article without all this opinionated (and possibly defamatory) language. Adam 07:11, 16 Oct 2003 (UTC)
On second thought I will try and turn it into a proper article myself later. Adam
She has not repaid the large sums involved. In most Australian jurisdictions, such wrongdoing constitutes "gaining financial advantage by deception," a crime punishable with up to ten years' in jail.
What money? Not repaid whom? Who accuses her of this crime? Rmhermen 15:36, Oct 16, 2003 (UTC)
Note to new version of article: This article takes far more space than the importance of its subject merits, but has been made necessary by the ignorant and/or malicious vandalism of the Jim Cairns article by User:Jack Wren and his previous anonymous incarnations. Now at least readers will have some idea what he is talking about. Adam 11:35, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Thanks to Doc for his substantial improvement to my initial work. I do not profess to be as erudite as he and I certainly don't claim to be as fair or neutral as he has demonstrated himself to be. Whenever I have injected unpleasant facts, he has been (mostly) inclined to include them, even though I suspect he has sympathy for the players, Cairns in particular. I commend him for his excellent articles on Jim Cairns and other areas.
On the issue of gaining advantage by deception, I do think Morosi does have serious "issues" (as you young lefties say) with her false evidence on her affair with Cairns. Essentially, she scammed many tens of thousands of dollars from publishers whose only crime was to publish the truth. Although perhaps it would be best to leave her and the entire Whitlam Years farce alone, at this point.

- I have not seen a reference to Morosi explicitly denying that she had a sexual relationship with Cairns. She may have done so in the Mirror or 2GB trials but the transcripts are not available online. Until we do see such a reference, the article cannot say that she directly denied it, and it is defamatory to say that she lied in court in the absence of that evidence. Adam
She sued publishers who accused of her sleeping with Jim Cairns in defamation. Aside from the abundant references in recent times - mainly in the Fairfax press - to her denials, the litigation itself is inherently a denial. To argue otherwise is absurd. Adam doesn't seem to understand defamation much. Basically any negative statement about someone is defamatory, if it is true then the defence of truth and in some states public interest or fair comment may be available. I'm willing to say it: she's a perjurer and should go to jail and should repay Fairfax and 2GB and News Corporation with interest. And while she's at it she should consider repaying all those drug-effected hippies she and Jim Cairns ripped off all those years ago.

That's the difference between writing history and venting one's personal prejudices. You can say what you please (although I suggest you get a lawyer first), but a historian can only say things for which they have seen evidence. Until someone can produce a sourced quotation of Morosi denying that she had sex with Cairns, it remains hearsay and not evidence. Adam
Maybe, although hearsay is a type of evidence in the Rules of Evidence. I am perfectly comfortable calling Junie Morosi a liar. Worse than a liar, she is a fraudster. I hold no brief for Fairfax or News Corporation or any other people she sued dishonestly. Fairfax in particular are often very irresponsible defaming people and often pay the price for doing so. More often though, they get away with because the defamed cannot afford to sue such a big corporation that is insured for loss in defamation cases in any event.
I put it to you there is ample evidence of the following:
1. Morosi and Cairns had sexual relations while she was working for him in his Ministerial office. Uren said so in his eulogy. His biographer makes it clear. Mungo MacCallum, a Gallery journalist at the time has written about it. Unless you crave photographs, what more historical evidence would you like? Oh yes, Cairns' fessed up to it as well. All we're missing is a home video of Junie teaching Dr Jim tantric sex while sucking on a crack pipe.
2. Morosi denied the affair, in affadavits and in court in the process of suing a number of publishers. She won money - as you have pointed out - from at least two. I haven't had the opportunity of perusing the affadavits or the transcripts but they have been referred to by a number of journalists - like Mike Carlton - since Cairns admitted the affair. She expressly denied - on oath - having the affair.
She is entitled to have sex with whomever she chooses. But she is not entitled to lie about it under oath, for profit. And that is precisely what she did.
The very least that could be fixed is the URL as her name by all accounts would appear to be Juni, not Junie. [anon user]
Both Ormonde and Strangio in their biographies of Cairns spell it Junie. Adam 13:05, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- If it matters after all these years... I thought it was Juni, too - and I distinctly recall all the newspapers spelling it thus - so when I came across this page just now, I was surprised to see it spelled "Junie".
- So which authority prevails with regard to conflicting information? Two biographies? Or multiple print media at the time this was big news? M.J.E. (talk) 12:02, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
